Marica Lindh

I am a self-taught figurative artist based in Luleå, northern Sweden. My work explores women in moments of movement and stillness. The body, colour and gesture are central to my work, often leaving the story open for the viewer to interpret.

About my work

My work centres around women in different situations and environments, sometimes in movement, sometimes in stillness. With a background in dance, I have always been drawn to the body and its ability to express emotion through posture, movement and gesture.

Faces in my paintings are often quiet or neutral. I am more interested in what the body can communicate and in leaving space for the viewer’s own interpretation. What we see on the surface does not always tell the whole story.

Colour is an important part of my process. I often begin with a pose, a colour or a feeling rather than a story. I work intuitively, allowing the painting to develop and sometimes take an unexpected direction as I work.
